The recent report released by the World Bank on Balochistan’s renewable energy potential has drawn attention towards utilizing the province’s potential to generate a surplus of electricity. The report states that the variable renewable energy (VRE) potential in Balochistan is so great that it could not only fulfil the domestic need for electricity but could also export it and stop the country’s reliance on power imports.
According to the Balochistan Renewable Energy Development Study, “the existing import connection lines can be used to stabilise the grid, exchange electricity with other countries at a competitive price, and optimise the annual supply mix.” The study highlights the fact that Balochistan has an untapped potential for generating electricity from solar and wind sources. It has a photovoltaic potential that ranges from 2,000 to 2,500 kWh/m2. Also, direct normal irradiation (DNI) of up to 2,500 kWh/m2 has the capacity to launch concentrated solar power (CSP).
The report stipulates the fact that if the government focuses on long term goals of energy generation, then it could not only reduce the reliance on energy imports but also allow the country to export energy to other countries by utilising the full potential of grid lines. Furthermore, the energy prices for the local public would also be reduced. By introducing the system of variable renewable energy (VRE) in Balochistan, the annual losses amounting to up to $500 million could also be reduced by 2028, the study says. Thus, Balochistan’s variable renewable energy (VRE) potential could unlock affordable, clean energy for the whole region.
Thus, the study highlights the importance of variable renewable energy (VRE) potential in Balochistan and how it could generate the prospect of exporting electricity, thereby lowering the country’s circular debt as well. On that note, the study reveals that if Balochistan implements its renewable energy resources (VRE) by 2028, it won’t just meet its own clean energy needs but also provide a chance for other provinces to benefit from affordable, competitive renewable energy.
Therefore, exploiting the variable renewable energy (VRE) potential is the need of the hour for Balochistan province.
Temp mail I like the efforts you have put in this, regards for all the great content.
