Yusuf Dikeç, a Turkish athlete at the Paris Olympics 2024, has made the rounds on the internet after securing a silver medal in the air pistol team event, and that too by not wearing any gear, lenses, or equipment. He was lauded across social media after he won the silver medal in such unusual circumstances for the game. He was seen by having his one hand in his pocket, casually standing by wearing his eyesight glasses, and shooting at the target. It will definitely stand as a defining moment in history when he hits the target and secures second place in the 10-meter air pistol team event.
However, it should be noted that the gold medal was won by Serbia’s Damir Mikec and Zorana Arunović. India’s Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won bronze medals at Paris Olympics 2024.
Moreover, his partner, Şevval İlayda Tarhan also didn’t wear any fancy equipment, and she also kept one hand in her pocket. It was the first win for their home country, Türkiye, at Paris Olympics 2024. According to Euro News, Dikeç stated, “I did not need special equipment. I’m a natural, a natural shooter.” Similarly, Eurosport shared this news on X and wrote, “No lens, no headphones, just vibes.” Another user wrote, “Turkey sent a 51-year-old guy with no specialized lenses, eye cover, or ear protection and got the silver medal.”
His actions drew applause from the online world as another user promptly labelled him as the “James Bond of the event.” He mainly earned the internet’s admiration because of his posture and unique style, along with such a confident body language, which caught everyone’s attention. France Embassy on X wrote, “Be cool like Yusuf Dikec. Congratulations on winning the silver medal in such a cool way.”
It should be noted that Dikeç, while talking to a Turkish news channel, shared that “my shooting technique is one of the rare shooting techniques in the world. I shoot with both eyes open. Even the referees are surprised by this.” And we couldn’t help but praise him too for such a fantastic shooting style at Paris Olympics 2024. Usually, in nail-biting games, it’s the person’s body language and his attitude that give him confidence for winning, and this is what we have seen in Dikeç’s scenario. Bravo!
