In a latest development, the KP cabinet has decided to amend the police Act 2017. According to this act, the chief minister of KP cannot direct the police including the Inspector General of Police. The IG comes under the federal government under this act. This act ensures not to politicize the police department; hence, the decentralization has been done in 2017.

However, it is pertinent to mention here that the CM KPK has no powers to direct the police department. But, in some cases, it becomes important that the CM must hold these powers to ensure peace and security in the province. Pertaining to the situation, the KP cabinet is going to amend this police act.

After approval from the cabinet, the KPK government has decided to present the law in the provincial assembly the same day. Under this, the KPK government will bring the authorities to direct the IG under the chief minister of the KPK province.
