While discussions of peace and understanding were taking place yesterday, Israel has undermined them today with a new attack on Gaza. It has been reported that a school in Gaza City has been attacked by Israel today, leaving more than 100 people dead in this deadly air strike. The school was housing displaced Palestinians, and today’s Israel attack on Gaza depicts that Israel is not ready for peace talks, which would commence on Aug 15. According to local doctors, they are finding it very difficult to “cope with victims” as the bodies are in “pieces” at Al-Tabin school.
Gaza’s civil defence ministry has addressed this deadly Israel attack on Gaza as a “horrific massacre”. On the other hand, Israel responded to this attack by saying that “It had precisely struck Hamas terrorists operating within a Hamas command and control centre embedded in the Al-Taba’een school.” Different Palestinian factions have condemned this Israel attack on Gaza schools and stated that all this is part of Israel’s daily terrorism, and the silence of international community is also giving fuel to this fire.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Biden administration has also issued a supply of new weapons to Israel worth $3 billion. A professor of international affairs at Qatar University reported to Al-Jazeera regarding today’s Israel attack on Gaza school and said, “They’ve been targeting hospitals and now schools, back-to-back targeting of schools. And this is a reflection of an Israeli mindset that wants to make Gaza really a hard place to live in. And this is also part of the pressure to put on Hamas in order to give in in any future talks.”
He further stated, “And we have seen this movie before. Every time there was talk about peace talks and about truth, the Israelis would do something to undermine the effort. And I think this is clear this time that Netanyahu is trying to pre-empt the talks on Thursday.”
On the other hand, the displaced Palestinians are living hand in hand in Gaza. The living conditions there are extremely difficult and in the words of one of the survivors there, “Enough!” Have mercy on us, for God’s sake, the young children and women are dying in the streets. Enough!”
