The incident took place around 9:30 am on Friday, Aug 23, 2024 when a surveillance drone named as mini-UAV was on a mission. According to The Hindu, the surveillance drone lost control due to a technical malfunction and went into the Nikial Sector of Independent Kashmir in Pakistan.
Indian army officials informed the media that a hotline message had already been sent to the Pakistan Army to return the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
According to the Indian army officials, the surveillance drone, which was on a test training in the hinterland of the Bhimber Gali area, lost control with the operator due to technical issue it developed and drifted into the other side of LOC.
A same kind of incident happened in Pakistan in March 2022 when a missile was fired from the Indian side attracting the strong protest from the Islamabad, which raised the safety concerns between two nuclear armed nations. The Indian army explained that issue as a technical failure during routine maintenance.
No human life was harmed by the missiles but the concerns were raised from the Pakistani side about Indian Nuclear weapons security. In the past, the news about selling of Uranium in the Indian local markets have also been disclosed which is a serious concern. It will only bring instability in the region and can result in a large scale war between the two Nuclear Armed countries.
