The international mediators have again stepped in to make both Hamas and Israel agree to a ceasefire. The three country leaders, namely the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, have decided in a joint meeting session to invite both parties to resume talks and go towards a ceasefire. They invited the opposing parties on August 15 either in Doha or Cairo to engage in Gaza ceasefire talks. The agenda of the meeting would be “to close all remaining gaps and commence implementation of the deal without further delay,” the mediators said.
On the other hand, the Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, stated that, “he will send a negotiating team to conclude the details of implementing a deal.”. The horrendous Israeli aggression on Gaza has gone beyond its limits, and a humanitarian emergency has been imposed on Gaza for months. It has been reported that Israel has seen flexibility towards Gaza ceasefire talks after Iran claimed that Israel doesn’t want peace in the Middle East and is continuously gravitating the countries towards war and terror.
It should be noted that an initial truce of the ceasefire deal would also allow the release of the hostages trapped in Gaza. However, a senior official of the Biden administration stated, “It’s not like the agreement’s going to be ready to sign on Thursday. There’s still a significant amount of work to do.” Therefore, the international community is closely watching as Gaza ceasefire talks are set to resume next week, with hopes for a lasting peace.
The situation in the Middle East is going through its worst phase, and in every aspect, human lives are the ones suffering. A displaced Gazan reported, “Have mercy on us for God’s sake, the young children and women are dying in the streets. Enough! Where will the people go?” Moreover, Muhammad Abdeen, a survivor in Gaza, said, “We’ve been displaced 15 times.” Thus, Gaza ceasefire talks are extremely important to achieve everlasting peace in the entire Middle Eastern region.
