In a disturbing turn of events, a small aerobatic plane named Fouga Magister aircraft, has been crashed into the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Le Lavandou, Southern France. It should be noted that it was a French air show and the plane crashed at 1700 hours as per the local time. The French Airforce spokesman told AFP that the aircraft was demonstrating an aerobatic display when it crashed into the sea. However, the search and rescue operation was carried out immediately by the maritime authorities, and eventually, they recovered the body of the pilot from the sea.
It is pertinent to mention here that the French air show was held in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of WWII’s ‘Operation Dragon’ in Provence, commemorating this significant military event. However, an official investigation regarding the cause of the crash has been launched by the authorities. Immediately after the crash, the French authorities reported, “The body of the pilot has been recovered.”
The video of this unsettling incident circulated widely on social media, showing the aerobatic jet crashing in front of stunned spectators. It should be noted that the French Air Force’s ‘Patrouille de France’ aerobatics team was also present in the French air show, but after this saddening incident, the authorities there decided to cancel any further demonstration, hence the event stopped.
The authorities present at the French air show stated, “The pilots and the entire Air Force community would like to express their solidarity at this difficult time.”
