Amid the escalating civil unrest in Bangladesh since the last couple of weeks, it has now been reported that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has finally resigned and fled the country with her sister. As per the sources, Bangladesh PM Hasina has left on a military airplane as the crowd went violent and was approaching the Prime Minister’s palace in Dhaka on Monday. Also, the chief of the army staff is now holding meetings with major political parties in Dhaka, and it is likely that an interim government will be formed shortly after her resignation.
It is pertinent to note that the violent protests in Dhaka have left close to 300 people dead collectively, and the situation was only getting worse. Now, after Bangladesh PM Hasina resigned, it has been reported from the television visuals that the violent and brutal protests in the streets have now transformed into an ongoing celebration. A news reporter from Al-Jazeera described the situation as, “Students and families with their children out celebrating, checking if she has either left the country or resigned. The government has most likely fallen, and the army will decide what the next step is, which is probably an interim government.”
According to the sources, “She and her sister have left Ganabhaban (the Prime Minister’s official residence) for a safer place. She wanted to record a speech. But she could not get an opportunity to do that.” Following the PM’s departure, the chief of army staff has called on the citizens to be peaceful now and avoid any further conflict that might make the situation worse. He addressed the citizens to be calm and added that a new interim government is yet to be formed.
