In a disturbing turn of events, the vice chancellor of the University of Education (UE), Dr. Saeed, has been dismissed from his position today. While the official reason for his removal remains unclear, reports from within the university suggest that his termination followed an incident involving a clash with the senior leader from the PML-N. According to sources, Dr. Saeed refused to approve the admission of a student based on a request from the politician.
This refusal allegedly offended the political figure, who then exerted pressure on the Higher Education Department (HEC) to have Dr. Saeed removed from his post. However, following the dismissal of the UE VC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal has assumed the role of acting vice chancellor.
On the other hand, Dr. Farrukh Naveed, Secretary of the Higher Education Department (HED), stated that Dr. Saeed was terminated due to “several mismanagement issues” within the university. When questioned about these allegations, Dr. Saeed expressed confusion, stating he was unaware of any such complaints or mismanagement concerns being raised against him.
Despite accusations of mismanagement, the UE VC has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his actions aligned with university policies, raising further questions about the real motives behind his removal.
However, it is pertinent to mention here that UE VC, Dr. Saeed, was appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellor in October 2023 for a three-year term. However, since November, he had been serving as the acting Vice Chancellor following the retirement of the university’s regular head.
It should be noted that the additional charge of the UE VC has now been assigned to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal, who has officially stepped into the role of acting UE VC. Dr. Afzal is expected to guide the university through this transition while addressing any challenges that may arise during this period of uncertainty.
