In a deeply troubling incident, an unidentified gunman opened fire on a school van in Attock this morning in the Dheri Kot area, according to reports from Punjab Rescue 1122. As a result, two children lost their lives, and five others were severely injured. The injured have been urgently transported to the hospital. Additionally, the van’s driver was also wounded in this tragic incident. Preliminary reports indicate that the school van in Attock was carrying children aged between 10 and 12 years old. However, the incident was a result of “personal enmity” as reported by the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfaraz Alpha.
The Regional Police Officer has ordered raids following the shooting on the school van in Attock to apprehend the suspects. Furthermore, Sarfaraz Alpha, the RPO, stated, “The gunfire was aimed at the driver but also caused harm to the children.” Different police forensic teams are also collecting evidence from the accident scene. However, the Inspector General (IG) Punjab has also took notice of the attack and instructed the Attock DPO to arrest the culprits involved as soon as possible. The President’s House has also released a statement regarding the tragic incident and stated that justice must be served properly. President, Asif Ali Zardari said, “Targeting innocent children is a cruel and shameful act.” In addition to this, the Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, stated, “Targeting innocent children did not deserve to be called human beings. The shooting incident on children inside the school van is a monstrosity. Those exhibiting barbarism are not entitled to any concession.”
Moreover, the Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has also directed the Rawalpindi Commissioner to submit the report of this incident immediately and expressed deep concerns for the family of the dead and injured children. The PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, also condemned this incident, saying, “My heart was crying tears of blood after hearing about the deaths of the children. Those with the blood of students on their hands are beasts.”
