In a significant development, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled full court reference for the Chief Justice, Qazi Faiz Isa, for October 25 at 10:30 am. It should be noted that Supreme Court registrar, Jazeela Aslam, issued the letter today to the Supreme Court Bar Association President, Shahzad Shaukat and asked for the copy of the President’s speech as well.

However, it is pertinent to mention here that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah would be the next Chief Justice of Pakistan in terms of superiority. On the other hand, rumors were circulating about Chief Justice’s extension as per recent proposed constitutional amendments since August, but Chief Justice denied these claims as he is going to retire soon.
It should be noted that it is a practice to pay tribute to the retiring Chief Justice’s contribution to the judicial system of Pakistan in a full court reference. Qazi Faiz Isa took oath as the 29th Chief Justice of Pakistan on September 17, 2023. The ex-President, Arif Alvi, took oath from Qazi Faiz Isa in a ceremony held at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad.
In a discussion with reporters regarding the rumors of extension, the Chief Justice, Qazi Faiz Isa, stated that he was informed by the Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarrar regarding the government extending tenure of all Chief Justices but he said, “I would not accept an extension in my tenure, even if all judges’ tenures were increased.”
