In a recent news, a Qantas plane, Boeing 737, bound for Brisbane made an emergency landing at Australia’s Sydney Airport due to a ‘contained engine failure’. The plane caused a grassfire during its landing back to Sydney Airport which caused several flights to divert their routes. The Qantas flight, QF520, was reported to be circling for a short period of time before it landed safely at Sydney Airport.
However, it is pertinent to mention here that the airline in a statement, wrote, “Qantas engineers have conducted a preliminary inspection of the engine and confirmed it was a contained engine failure. While customers would have heard a loud bang, there was not an explosion.”
It should be noted that one of the plane passengers, Georgina Lewis, stated, “One of the engines appeared to have gone. The pilot came on 10 minutes later to explain that they had a problem with a right-hand engine on take-off.” Moreover, another passenger, Mark Willacy, said, “That big bang as the wheels were leaving the ground and the shudder, that was like nothing I have ever felt. When we landed there was a lot of applause and cheering amongst the passengers.”
Not to mention, the incident caused 11 domestic flights to be cancelled and four got diverted, as per the Sydney’s Airport spokesperson.
