Regarding the recent attacks of Israel on Lebanon, the U.S., France and major key allies have issued an emergency alert urging for an immediate “21-days ceasefire” across the Israel-Lebanon border.
The countries, involve in calling for a ceasefire, fear that this Israel-Lebanon war has a potential to spread beyond the Middle-Eastern region. Hence, a ceasefire is a must for both the countries. It should be noted that the countries involve in calling for a ceasefire include, U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the European Union. All these countries have urged for a ceasefire after the recent United Nation sessions that occurred on Wednesday.
The countries also expressed hope in this decision and stated that it might ultimately result in a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza as well, hence the situation could be managed and controlled effectively. The countries stated that it is must to carry out an everlasting peace in the region and to stop it from escalating any further.
However, it is pertinent to mention here that regarding the call for a ceasefire, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has claimed that he has not yet considered the U.S. proposal regarding the ceasefire and also instructed his army to “keep fighting with full force.” Also, the Israel’s finance minister and the country’s far-right leader have also rejected the pleas for the ceasefire today.
On the other hand, the Lebanese Prime Minister has fully supported the call for the ceasefire and also reassured the U.S., and other countries that he will also limit attacks from Hezbollah to a great extent as well.
However, the Israeli Prime Minister, stated, “Our policy is clear, we’ll continue to strike Hezbollah with all our might… we won’t stop until we’ve achieved all our objectives… this is the policy, make no mistake.”
Not only this, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have also eliminated one of the top Hezbollah commanders in a strike today, as confirmed by Netanyahu.
Netanyahu stated, “During the flight, I gave approval for the elimination of the head of the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) unit and other things, and he was eliminated. My policy, our policy is clear. We are continuing to strike Hezbollah with full force. And we will not stop until we reach all our goals, chief among them the return of the residents of the north securely to their homes.”
