In a devastating Nepal plane crash that occurred on Wednesday, Aug 7, 2024, in Central Nepal, it has been reported that all five people on board lost their lives. They include four Chinese nationals and a pilot, and the helicopter lost contact with the air traffic control (ATC) just three minutes after it took off. According to the press release from the Nepali Civil Aviation Authority, the helicopter crashed in Nuwakot district, which is located in the north of the capital.
The helicopter named “Air Dynasty Chopper” was actually on a tourist flight starting from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and was heading towards Syabrubesi until it lost contact and crashed at Nuwakot district. However, it should be noted that just two weeks before the current Nepal plane crash, another crash was also reported in Kathmandu, Nepal, where all 18 people lost their lives except the pilot.
Speaking to the media, the police spokesperson, Dan Bahadur Karki, stated, “All five people aboard, including the pilot, are dead. It has crashed in a jungle area on the slope of a hill. We do not know the cause yet or how it happened.”
By far, air travel is considered the safest mode of transportation, with the least number of accidents, but Nepal has the worst track record in terms of aviation safety. If we see the timeline of Nepalian aviation, we can clearly observe that it has the weakest support structure for aviation safety and is in the news for aviation related incidents, one after the other. Due to these reasons, all Nepali aircraft carriers are banned from entering the European Union.
Hence, the Nepal plane crash incidents are gaining momentum, and it is high time that the international aviation safety experts take some steps to revitalize Nepal’s aviation industry. In this way, Nepal plane crash incidents could be mitigated.
