An advisory issued by the Pakistan Foreign Office on Tuesday advised Pakistani nationals residing in Lebanon to leave the country immediately as the instability in the Middle East escalates. Following the death of the Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, and the killing of Hezbollah’s top commander, Fouad Shukr, the unrest on both sides is on the brink of war. Iran and Hezbollah consider Israel responsible for these killings and as a result, 30 rockets from Lebanon were being fired towards Upper Galilee on Sunday, as claimed by the Israeli military. Hence, the prevailing unrest in the Middle East caused the Pakistani Foreign Office to issue Lebanon security alert.
The statement released by Pakistan’s Foreign Office says, “In view of the recent developments and the prevailing security situation in the region, all Pakistanis are advised to avoid travel to Lebanon till further notice.” It further stated, “Those staying in Lebanon are advised to exercise extreme caution, especially with regard to vulnerable areas. All Pakistani nationals presently residing in Lebanon are advised to leave Lebanon while commercial flights remain available.”
Following the Lebanon security alert, the Ministry has also assisted the Pakistani nationals in Lebanon with the following contact details:
Cell/Whatsapp: +961-81669488, +961-81815104
Email: parepbeirut@mofa.gov.pk
It is pertinent to mention here that not only Pakistan but other European countries, including, United Kingdom, France, Canada and Britain, have also issued travel advisories to their citizens in Lebanon amid Lebanon security alert. Moreover, Arab countries like Saudi Arabia and Jordan have also asked their citizens to leave Lebanon on permanent basis.
