In a recent news, it has been reported that the process of privatizing some major hospitals in Punjab has been started. In a notification issued, four major hospitals of the district Bahawalnagar are in the process of being outsourced under “Maryum Nawaz Health Initiative Outsource Program.” These hospitals will then be transferred from the scrutiny of government to the private sector and they will be liable to no funds of government under privatization policy.

However, it is pertinent to mention here that the four major hospitals which are being privatized by Maryum Nawaz in the district Bahawalnagar include BHU Noor Muhammad Bhungran, Bahawalnagar; BHU Chak No. 34/3-R, Haroonabad, Bahawalnagar; BHU Mohib Ali, Bahawalnagar and BHU Peer Sikanadar, Bahawalnagar.

On that note, they will fall into the category of private hospitals after completing the privatization process and will run accordingly. However, it should be noted that some schools in major districts of Punjab have also been privatized by the Punjab government before and now the hospitals are being privatized. Education and Healthcare are the most important responsibilities of the government and time will tell whether the decision of privatizing them stand true or not.
Government should act wisely
