Sheikh Hasina’s resignation turned the violent protests in Bangladesh into moments of celebration for the demonstrators yesterday, but the atmosphere of civil unrest persisted. The protestors demanded to dissolve Bangladesh Parliament immediately after Hasina’s resignation. The students had given a deadline and stated that if their deadline was not met, they would be launching a “strict programme” against the government. However, complying with their demands to dissolve Bangladesh Parliament, it has been announced that the Parliament has been dissolved completely.
On the other hand, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman also announced that they would be forming an interim government after meeting with major political parties in Bangladesh. It should be noted that right after the announcement came to dissolve Bangladesh Parliament, President Mohammed Shahbuddin announced to free all those student protestors who were arrested during the protests. He announced this decision after meeting with the chief of the army staff. Moreover, he also ordered to nullify the arrest orders of the opposition leader, Khaleda Zia.
It is pertinent to note that the student protestors have demanded the formation of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government. They stated, “We have decided that the interim government would be formed in which internationally renowned Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, who has wide acceptability, would be the chief adviser.”
Mohammed Younus is an internationally recognized economist who made great efforts for the lower class of society and lifted millions out of poverty. Hence, the decision to dissolve Bangladesh parliament has been taken, and talks are going on for selecting the head of the interim government.
