A recent BRICS International Municipal Conference (IMF), held in Moscow from August 27 to August 28, brought together representatives from 126 nations. Regarding the BRICS conference in Moscow, Paul Frimpong, Founder of Africa-China Centre for Policy Advisory, stated, “More than 40 countries have expressed interest in joining BRICS. BRICS alliance attracts a diverse group of potential members because of its primary-driven shared desire to create a more equitable global landscape that many countries believe is currently biased against them.”
An interesting detail to note is that the 16th BRICS Summit is set to take place from October 22 to 24, 2024, in Kazan, Russia. This upcoming summit will build on the recent discussions held in Moscow, where countries talked about the opportunities BRICS offers, like reducing their reliance on the US dollar and boosting trade using their own currencies.
The Kazan summit is expected to dig deeper into these ideas, giving both member nations and those interested in joining a chance to work together on strategies that could really change the global economic landscape. Hosting the event in Kazan also shows Russia’s strong commitment to leading these important conversations and pushing forward the goals of BRICS.
