In a latest development, the Brazilian government has lifted ban on the social media platform, X, after the platform paid hefty fines totaled $5.1 million. Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, in a statement said that he has ordered immediate resumption of X throughout the country after the platform fulfilled the country’s deemed requirements.
It should be noted that Justice Moraes previously banned the social media platform, X, in Brazil when Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, refused to ban those accounts which the government has asked to do. The government asked Musk to ban certain accounts on X as they were spreading misinformation regarding the 2022 Brazilian Presidential Election.
However, it is pertinent to mention here that the Brazilian government also imposed fines on the company which it refused to pay earlier but had now paid and ban the required accounts as well on government’s orders. Pertaining to this, the social media platform, X, is now running smoothly across Brazil without the use of VPNs.
Musk said, “The decision to close X offices in Brazil was difficult.” It should be noted that there are almost 22 million users of X across Brazil and it makes the platform one of the biggest markets across the globe. On unbanning, X said, “We are proud to return to Brazil.”
