In a major update, the government has reduced the prices of petrol by Rs 2.07 per liter and that of high-speed diesel by Rs 3.4 per liter for the next two weeks, providing relief to the general public. A notification issued by the federal government stated that after reducing the petrol prices, the new petrol prices stand at Rs 247.03 and if we talk about the high-speed diesel, it stands at Rs 246.29.
On the other hand, the prices of light diesel have seen a reduction of Rs 1.03 per liter and the prices of kerosene oil have been reduced by Rs 3.57 per liter. However, it is pertinent to mention here that the decision of federal government of reducing petrol prices for the general public is aimed at easing the pressure on consumers which inflation has inflicted on them.
It should be noted that the government is currently charging Rs 60 per liter petroleum levy although the general sales tax (GST) is zero on all petroleum products. However, still, the charging of per liter petroleum levy affects the general public.

It is pertinent to mention here that the reduction in petroleum product prices might come as approval of IMF bailout package of which the first tranche has to be received by Sep 30. However, in any of the cases, the reduction in petrol prices has definitely provided a relief to the masses already suffering from inflation.
