In a devastating news, Hezbollah confirmed the death of its leader Syed Hassan Nasrallah in a statement released today. Earlier today, Israel claimed that it killed Hezbollah’s commander in a “targeted strike” to the group’s underground headquarters under a residential building in Beirut on Friday. However, after a lot of speculations, Hezbollah confirmed this saddening news today.
The statement reads, “Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, has joined his great, immortal martyr comrades whom he led for about 30 years.” Hassan Nasrallah’s death is a major blow not only for Hezbollah but also for Iran. The AFP reporters stated that they heard screams of women for the death of their leader after Hezbollah officially announced this news.
However, it is pertinent to mention here that Hezbollah didn’t further clarify how the leader got killed but it does state that along with Nasrallah, the General Abbas Nilforoushan, deputy commander of the Guards’ operations, also got killed in a targeted strike in Beirut. In addition to that, Hezbollah stated that they will continue their mission “for the support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defence of Lebanon and its steadfast and honourable people”.
On the other hand, the Israeli military said in a statement, “The strike was conducted while Hezbollah’s senior chain of command were operating from the headquarters and advancing terrorist activities against the citizens of the State of Israel. Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world.”
Yesterday, at the session of the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated, “As long as Hezbollah chooses the path of war, Israel has no choice, and Israel has every right to remove this threat and return our citizens to their homes safely.”
In a press conference at New York, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said, “We believe the way forward is through diplomacy, not conflict … We will continue to work intentionally with all parties to urge them to choose that course.”
However, leaders of the Muslim countries condemned the acts of Israel strongly and called it a genocide. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said, “Lebanon and the Lebanese people are the latest target of a policy of genocide, occupation and invasion carried out by Israel since October 7. No person with a conscience can accept, excuse or justify such a massacre.”
Similarly, the Yemeni’s Houthis released a statement, condemning Israel’s barbarism and stated, “The martyrdom of … Hassan Nasrallah will increase the flame of sacrifice, the heat of enthusiasm, the strength of resolve, vowing to achieve victory and the demise of the Israeli enemy. The massacre of the defenceless people in Lebanon once again revealed the ferocity of the Zionist rabid dog to everyone, and proved the short-sighted and stupid policy of the leaders of the usurping regime.”
Lubnan should act accordingly
